Digging Deeper:
- Read Acts 28:17-31, John 12:35-40, Romans 9:10-24, Ephesians 4:18-19 and Hebrews 3:7-13. What are the root issues that cause a hardened heart? Consider how Pharaoh’s hardened his heart in Exodus 7:13, 8:15, 8:32, 9:34-35 and God hardened his heart in Exodus 4:21, 9:12, 10:1, 10:20, 27, 11:10, 14:8. How are we to understand the relationship between God’s desire for all men to be saved yet hardening whom he wills? How can we protect ourselves from having a hardened heart?
- Read Matthew 25:31-34, Luke 11:20, Luke 17:20-21, Acts 1:1-3, Acts 28:30-31, 1 Corinthians 2:3-5, and 1 Corinthians 4:20. What is the Kingdom of God? How can it be in our midst and upon us? What does it look like to manifest the Kingdom with power? What does it mean to live in the reality of the Kingdom now while also looking forward to its future fulfillment?
- Read Genesis 12:3, Psalm 67, Malachi 1:11, Acts 1:8, Romans 11:25, and Revelation 7:9. What does Paul’s final declaration—that “this salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen” teach us about God's mission? How do the Old Testament stories of Ruth, Naaman, Jonah, and other Scriptures lay the groundwork for this concept? Read Acts 28:31 and 2 Timothy 2:9. What is the implication that, though Paul was chained, the Gospel was unhindered?
Taking it Home:
