Getting to Know you:
- When considering whether a story is true, what factors help give credibility to the account?
Digging Deeper:
- Read John 7:5, 1 Corinthians 4:9-13 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-11. Discuss the different accounts of the resurrection. Consider the different group accounts and the accounts of former unbelievers like that of James the brother of Jesus and the Apostle Paul. How do these different accounts and their willingness to suffer for Jesus provide a strong defense for the resurrection? What other evidence helps you to have confidence Jesus rose from the dead?
- Read Romans 4:25, Romans 6:1-11, Ephesians 3:14-20, Philippians 3:7-11, and Philippians 4:11-13. In what ways does his death and resurrection still impact a Christian’s life? According to these verses, how would you respond to a Christian who said they can’t forgive or walk in freedom from sin? According to Romans 8:9-11 and 1 Corinthians 15:12-23, what does the literal resurrection of Christ guarantee for us as believers?
- Read Genesis 4:1, John 10:11-15 and John 17:3. What does knowing mean in these Scriptures? What is the difference between knowing about and knowing experientially? Reflect on your discussion in question 2 and discuss what is meant in Philippians 3:10 when Paul says that we can know his resurrection power.
Taking it home:
- Do you feel you have been living an empowered life through the Holy Spirit? If so, how? If not, why not?
