- Read Matthew 5:13, 43-48, Acts 17:1-6, Acts 19:11-27 and 1 Peter 4:3-4. What was meant and what was happening that caused people to say Christians were turning the world upside down? Describe what it would look like to see something like that happening in the Imperial Valley.
- Read John 11:45-48, Acts 5:27-28, Acts 16:16-21, Acts 17:4-9, Acts 19:23-27. Discuss all the different groups and reasons people hated the Christian message. Why was their message such a threat? What reasons do people have for resisting the Gospel today?
- Read Matthew 5:11-12, Acts 16:6-10, 2 Timothy 3:11-12 and 1 Peter 4:12-19. Why do you think God forbid Paul and his companions from going into Asia and then proceeded to send them into hostile territory? What should we understand about persecution and suffering? What are the implications if we are not being persecuted for our faith?
- Does anyone in the group feel that they are being persecuted for following the Lord? Take some time to gather around and pray for that individual.
