Getting to Know You
  1. Describe a situation when you faced serious opposition or thought the task was too difficult to accomplish. How did you get through it? Looking back, would you do anything differently?

Digging Deeper
  1. Read John 16:32-33, Acts 14:22, Romans 5:3-5, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, Philippians 4:6-7, Hebrews 12:1-2 and James 1:2-4. Why did Paul and Barnabas continue preaching even when they faced rejection and persecution? What is the connection between suffering, endurance, character, and hope? What role does perseverance play in the Christian faith, and how do these passages encourage us to remain faithful despite difficulties? How can we experience peace in the midst of trials?
  2.  Read Matthew 21:8-11 and 27:18-23, John 2:23-25 and Galatians 1:6-10. The people in Lystra initially wanted to worship Paul and Barnabas, but later, Paul was stoned. Why do you think the people of Lystra were so quick to change their opinion of Paul and Barnabas? How can we develop a mindset that prioritizes God’s approval over popularity? What does this sudden shift teach us about the nature of human praise and opposition?
  3. Read Joel 2:12-14, Jonah 3:1-5,10, Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 26:40-41, Mark 9:25-29, Acts 14:23 ,and James 5:16. Paul and Barnabas committed the new believers to the Lord with prayer and fasting. Why is prayer in conjunction with fasting so important? What have you experienced through prayer and fasting in your own life?
