Acts 4:1-12 • No other Name
Getting to Know You:
- Describe a time when you encountered opposition to an idea you strongly supported. How did you respond?
- Read Acts 4:1-4, 12, John 3:19-21, John 14:6, 1 Corinthians 1:20-25, Acts 26:8 and John 15:20-21. Why were the religious leaders so ‘annoyed at the apostles in Acts?’ If Christianity is all about love and serving others, why is the Gospel abrasive to the lost? Peter emphasizes that there is “no other name” by which we can be saved. What does this signify? What happens when we proclaim this exclusivity in a pluralistic world?
- Read Acts 4:5-12, Isaiah 28:15-17, Romans 9:30-33, Ephesians 2:19-22, 1 Peter 2:1-8, and Mathew 21:42-44. A corner stone was usually the largest and most solid stone which was typically placed at the corner of the building. Once it was set it became the basis for every measurement following. Based on this understanding, why was Jesus referred to as the cornerstone? If Jesus was the cornerstone, who made up the builders, foundation and the stones of the building? Lastly, what is the significance of each?
- Read Acts 4:10, Acts 3:16, Mark 16:17-18, John 14:13-14, James 5:14-15 and 1 John 5:14-15. What does it mean to minister in the name of Jesus? Why is it important to use the name of Jesus? What is necessary for us to do in order to minister in his power?
- Break up in smaller groups and share about a time when you have experienced a healing or the presence of God in a tangible way. Then pray for one another that you will be filled with his Spirit and minister in his power with boldness.
