LIFE GROUP QUESTIONS

Acts 1:1-8

Getting to Know You
  1. Share about a time you had to wait for something you wanted and maybe even prayed for. How did you feel while waiting?

Digging Deeper:
  1. Read Acts 1:1-8, Matthew 3:11-12, Mark 1:4-8.  What is the baptism of the Spirit?  How is that different from bodily baptism? Read John 18:25, John 20:19 and then Acts 4:23-31 and Galatians 5:16-18. Consider the lives of the disciples before and after the baptism of the Spirit.  What spiritual power did the baptism of the Spirit bring into the lives of the disciples that the physical presence of Christ did not?
  2. Read Acts 1:4, Acts 1:8, 1 Samuel 13:8-14 and Psalm 40:1-3, Ecclesiastes 3:11.  How does Jesus’ command to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit demonstrate the importance of God’s timing?  In what ways do we still need to wait on the Lord today?
  3. Read Acts 2:1-13, Acts 7:54-60, John 16:13, Romans 8:14, Galatians 5:16, Galatians 5:25, and Ephesians 5:18.  Based on these verses, what does it mean and look like to be filled with the Spirit?  Based on the imagery (walking, led, filled etc) described in these verses, how would you describe the relationship a Christian should have with the Spirit?

Taking it Home:
  1. How would you explain your relationship with the Spirit?  Is it the same or different from the biblical description?  How can you grow in your spiritual intimacy with Christ?
