Study Guide
Introduction – VBS explored who God is, and this message adds two important truths: God is holy and God is just. Something to think about: Why is it important to know what God is truly like?
God Is Holy – God is completely unique, set apart, pure, and unlike anything in creation. His holiness reveals our sin and shows our need for cleansing. Something to think about: How should God’s holiness change the way we approach Him?
God Is Undefiled – God is sinless, pure, and perfect, while we are stained by sin. The good news is that Jesus makes us clean and makes us holy through His sacrifice. Something to think about: Where do you need to trust Jesus to cleanse and change you? God Is Just –
God always judges rightly. Sin cannot be ignored because God is holy and righteous. Something to think about: Why would God not be truly just if He simply overlooked sin?
God Pardons Justly – Jesus took the punishment for sin in our place. At the cross, God showed both perfect justice and perfect love. Something to think about: How does the cross help you understand both God’s justice and His mercy?
Application – The right response to a holy and just God is humility, repentance, faith, and worship. We are invited to “lay our hands upon the Lamb” and trust Jesus as our substitute. Something to think about: Have you personally trusted Jesus to take your sin and make you clean?
