Study Guide
The Way of the World –
Paul describes the world as crooked and twisted, a place where sin distorts truth, pulls people away from God, and makes evil look normal. Believers should recognize that this world is not our home.
Something to think about: Where have I become too comfortable with the values of the world?
Live Faithfully –
Paul calls believers to obey Christ not just when others are watching, but from genuine character and surrender. Jesus obeyed the Father even to the cross, and His people are called to honor Him with faithful obedience.
Something to think about: Who am I when no one else is looking?
Live Fruitfully –
“Work out your salvation” does not mean earning salvation, but letting the salvation God has worked in us show through our lives. Saving faith should produce serving works.
Something to think about: How is my salvation becoming visible through my actions?
Live Patiently –
Grumbling and arguing reveal a lack of trust in God and damage our witness. Contentment shows that we believe God is good, wise, and faithful in every circumstance.
Something to think about: What does my attitude communicate about my trust in God?
Live Blamelessly –
Believers are called to live as children of God, avoiding compromise and refusing to flirt with sin. A holy life should stand out in a dark world.
Something to think about: What tempting situations do I need to avoid completely?
Live Brightly –
Jesus is the light of the world, and His followers are called to reflect His light boldly. We shine by holding fast to God’s Word, exposing darkness, speaking truth in love, and proclaiming the Gospel.
Something to think about: Am I hiding my light or helping others find their way to Christ?
Paul, Timothy, and Epaphroditus –
Paul shows sacrifice, Timothy shows support, and Epaphroditus shows servanthood. Each one gives us a picture of a life poured out for God and useful to others.
Something to think about: Which example do I most need to follow right now?
