Study Guide

The Warning of the Watchman – John the Baptist called people to repent and warned of the coming wrath. The gospel begins with recognizing our need to be saved and understanding the seriousness of sin before a holy God.
Something to think about: Have you truly grasped what you are being saved from, or only what you are saved to?

God is Holy – God’s holiness means He is completely pure and set apart from sin. Sin cannot exist in His presence, and every act of rebellion is ultimately against Him. This makes sin far more serious than we often realize.
Something to think about: How does seeing God as perfectly holy change your view of sin in your life?

God is Just – God is perfectly fair and must judge sin. His wrath is not random or emotional—it is a righteous and necessary response to evil. A just God cannot ignore sin without compromising His nature.
Something to think about: Do you trust that God’s justice is right, even when it is difficult to understand?

God’s Wrath is Real – God’s wrath is present, building, and coming against all ungodliness. It is the rightful consequence of sin and rebellion, showing how seriously God takes evil and injustice.
Something to think about: How should the reality of God’s coming judgment shape the way you live today?

God is Love – Despite humanity’s rebellion, God chose to intervene. His love moved Him to provide a way of escape from wrath through Jesus Christ. God does not desire destruction but repentance and life.
Something to think about: How does God’s love motivate you to respond differently to Him?

The Cross: Where Wrath and Love Meet – On the cross, Jesus absorbed the full wrath of God in our place. God’s justice was satisfied, and His love was demonstrated. Jesus became sin so that we could become righteous.
Something to think about: What does it mean personally that Jesus took your place under God’s wrath?

The Empty Tomb: Proof of Victory – The resurrection proves that Jesus’ sacrifice was accepted. Without the resurrection, there is no hope—but because He lives, we are freed from sin, death, and wrath.
Something to think about: How does the resurrection give you confidence in your faith today?

The Call to Respond – The message of the gospel demands a response: repentance and faith. Each person must choose between remaining under wrath or receiving life through Christ.
Something to think about: Have you fully surrendered your life to Christ, or are you still holding back?
