Read James 4:13–16, Philippians 4:6–8, and Proverbs 6:6–8. What is a godly balance between being wise and planning, while also realizing that we ultimately have no control over the future? Is there anything that should make a believer anxious? What does anxiety reveal about us? How would you counsel someone who is struggling with anxiety?

Read Psalm 23:1–6 and Psalm 34:15–19. In times of uncertainty and affliction, why can we find comfort in His provision, presence, and protection? How are these promises applicable to us today? Why is it important to understand they are not fully realized until heaven? How has God used personal lack and personal affliction as tools to draw believers closer to God?

Read 2 Corinthians 1:8–11 and James 1:2–4. When we go through adversity, God is at work in many different ways. How are trials and adversity blessings in disguise? What purpose do they serve in a believer’s life? How does responding well to suffering impact you and others? What are the results if we respond poorly to our trials?

How have you responded to suffering and uncertainty in your life? What has God been trying to teach you in these times? If you have responded poorly, how can you respond better or differently in the future?
