Ephesians 4:1-16

Getting to Know You:
  1. When you hear the phrase “walk the walk,” what comes to mind? Can you think of someone whose life clearly matches what they say they believe?

Digging Deeper:
  1. Read John 17:20–23, Ephesians 4:1–6, Colossians 3:12–15, and Hebrews 10:26–39. What characteristics are mentioned that we, as believers, should exemplify? What do we convey to the Lord and to others when we fail to operate in them? What are some core reasons many Americans fail to walk in them?
  2. Read Ephesians 4:7–12 and 1 Corinthians 12:28. Who are the gifts given to the Church body? What is the specific role of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, shepherd, and teacher? How are these giftings used today? What is God’s purpose in giving them to the body of Christ? Do you feel the American believer is equipped? If not, what problems are the result of leadership, and what are the results of the sheep?
  3. Read Ephesians 4:12–16, 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Colossians 1:28, James 1:2–3, and 1 Peter 4:10–11. What is Christ’s goal for every believer? What are some of the different ways a believer can grow toward spiritual maturity? What part do our spiritual leaders play in this role?

Taking it Home:
  1. What does it look like to be spiritually mature and equipped? Do you feel you are both? If you are lacking in one or the other, what steps can you take to change this?
