Ephesians 2:1-10

Getting to Know You
  1. Have you ever given someone a nice gift that the recipient did not value? How did that make you feel?

Digging Deeper
  1. Read John 6:44; Romans 8:7–8; 1 Corinthians 2:14; and Ephesians 2:1–3. How is the unbeliever described? What things is he unable to do because of his condition? How should our understanding of the lost condition impact the way we witness? How does this understanding provide comfort and perspective when people reject our message?
  2. Read Ezekiel 36:26–27; John 11:25–26; Romans 6:4–11; 2 Corinthians 5:17; and Ephesians 2:4–7. In what different ways does a believer experience spiritual life? Compare those who are spiritually dead with those who are spiritually alive. What characteristics describe each group?
  3. Read Matthew 5:16; Romans 12:1; Ephesians 2:7–10; Philippians 2:12–13; and James 2:14–17. If works are not necessary for salvation, what purpose do they serve? How would you respond to a believer who says, “Since I am already saved by grace, works aren’t that important to me”?

Taking It Home
  1. Take a moment to examine your heart. Where do you see evidence of life? Are there areas that are hindering your spiritual walk? Have the group pray for you in the areas that need God’s touch.
