Getting to Know You:
What is something you do that most characterizes you as a person?
Digging Deeper:
Read Proverbs 6:16-19, Romans 6:23, Galatians 3:10-14, and Galatians 6:8. How would you define sin, and why does God hate it? Why does sin bring a curse? How does understanding why God hates sin help us to grow in our hatred of it? What would you say to someone who said, “God made His laws to keep me from having fun.”
Read Psalm 22:1-2, Isaiah 53:4-5, Jeremiah 23:6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13-14, and Ephesians 1:1. What happened when Christ died for our sins? What did His death accomplish for us? Why is it not enough to simply say we are forgiven but that we are actually new creations and called saints?
Read Galatians 5:1 and Philippians 4:11. How does knowing our identity as God’s holy children and understanding we fight from victory and not for it empower and encourage us? How would you say to a believer who doesn’t understand this and says, “I can’t forgive” or “I can’t walk in freedom”?
Taking it Home:
What is your view of yourself? Is it different from how God sees you? If your view is different, take a moment to confess what is true about you. For instance, “God I have seen myself as unworthy / unloved / lacking God’s power to change. But that is not true of me. I am holy / loved / worthy / and able because of You.
