Study Guide

1. Peter’s Defection from the Truth of the Gospel (Galatians 2:11–14)
Peter’s Hypocrisy – Peter knew the truth but acted in fear of others, compromising the gospel message by separating from Gentile believers.
Something to think about: Where in your life are you tempted to let fear of others’ opinions keep you from living out the truth of the gospel?

2. Paul’s Integrity (Galatians 2:11–14)
Paul courageously confronted Peter’s hypocrisy to protect the purity of the gospel. His example shows us the importance of standing for truth even when it’s uncomfortable.
Something to think about: How can you lovingly confront false beliefs or hypocrisy while maintaining integrity and humility?

3. Paul’s Doctrine of Justification (Galatians 2:15–16)
Paul clearly teaches that justification — being declared righteous before God — comes by faith alone, not by works of the law.
Something to think about: Do you ever fall into the trap of trying to “earn” God’s favor through performance or good works?

4. No Way by Law, One Way by Faith (Galatians 2:16)
There’s no righteousness apart from Christ. Faith in Him is the only way to be made right with God.
Something to think about: How can you rest more deeply in the finished work of Jesus instead of striving for approval?

5. Paul’s Defense of Justification by Faith Alone (Galatians 2:17–21)
Paul reminds us that new life in Christ begins with death to self — “I have been crucified with Christ.” Our new identity is defined by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us.
Something to think about: How can you daily live in the reality that Christ lives in you?
