Taking It Home
- Describe a time when you had to stand up for something that resulted in opposition or personal loss. How did you handle it? What would you do differently if you could?
- Read Ecclesiastes 3:1, Matthew 12:43-45, Mark 1:23-26, Acts 16:16-18, 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, Ephesians 6:12, 1 John 4:1. What do these passages teach us about spiritual oppression and deliverance? What does this teach us about discernment? Why did Paul wait “many days” before casting out the spirit? The slave girl was speaking the truth about Paul and Silas. Why was Paul troubled by her words?
- Read Habakkuk 3:17-18, Matthew 5:16, Acts 16:25-28, 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, Colossians 3:16 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19. Why were Paul and Silas able to pray and sing hymns despite their suffering? What impact did their worship have on the other prisoners? Even though the earthquake opened all the doors and loosened chains, Paul and Silas did not escape. What does this teach us about trusting in God?
- Read Luke 19:8-9, Luke 23:44-48, John 16:8, Acts 16:27-34, James 2:17, and 1 Peter 2:12. What did the jailer see that demonstrated that the gospel was true and that he needed salvation? What are some additional ways that have brought people to repentance? How did the jailer’s actions and Zacchaeus reflect the transformation through salvation?
