03.02.25 | From Law to Love

Getting to Know You:
  1. Do you feel it’s possible to be united in spirit but unable to work with someone?
Digging Deeper:
  1. Read Acts 15:1-29, Proverbs 11:14, Matthew 8:9, John 10:27, 1 Corinthians 2:14-16, Philippians 2:1-2 and Hebrews, 4:12-13. Consider how these Scriptures apply to the dissension in Acts 15. What is necessary for us to walk in unity? Read John 17:20-23 and consider what is at stake if we don’t.
  2. Read Acts 12:25, Acts 13:5, Acts 13:13 and Acts 15:36-41. What was at the heart of Paul and Barnabas’ disagreement? Would you maintain that they disagreed on handling John Mark yet remained united in spirit? Why would you say this?
  3. Read Acts 4:36 and 2 Timothy 4:11. Discuss the result of John Mark’s life after Barnabas, ‘the son of encouragement,’ gave him another chance. In what ways were both Paul and Barnabas ‘right’? What can you take away from this discussion?
Taking it Home:
  1. It is normal to have conflict, even among godly believers. If anyone is struggling in the group to work through a conflict, take a moment to pray for them to remain united in love, though they may disagree on the outcome.
